Adventure sports in Rajasthan
Rajasthan offers both old and new adventure sports. There are many sports that were enjoyed by the erstwhile Maharajas of Rajasthan and the newer sports that are enjoyed by the present generation as well. Ballooning
People can travel short distances in a hot air balloon. The best part is to travel the sand dunes or the various fairs and festivals such as the Pushkar fair. Para sailing
This is an expensive adventure sports since it requires some complex machinery. There are many operators who offer Para sailing on the sand dunes. This can make your vacation more exciting. Gliding can also be indulged in. Gliding needs prior approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
There are many runways and strips that offer Gliding. Jaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer are just some of the runways.
Trekking and Camping
The Himalayas and the Ghats are not the only place in India where Trekking and Camping can be done but Trekking can also be done in Rajasthan. There hilly areas of Rajasthan give an ideal opportunity to the trekkers. The Mewar Belt and the hills of Mount Abu provide enough trekking opportunities and have many trails leading up through the mountains. Travelers should carry only basic necessities such as bottles of water as the rest are available throughout the way.
There are many camping opportunities available. Tour operators have many packages available that include luxury tents. Travelers and tourists can stay on the sand dunes go for camel safaris and enjoy their meals in the desert. Such tents can be found in Pushkar, Samodhe and at Jaipur. The food is good and the local flavor of the state comes out. There are bonfires each night and local musicians and dancers regale the night.
Boating and Angling
Though water is in scarcity across the state, there are several natural and man made lakes in Rajasthan. Tourists can go for boating at Siliserh Lake and at the Udiapur Lake. There is lot of game fish in the lakes. The rudimentary fishing rod is available. But the more expensive fishing equipment is hard to find and rent. Tourists are advised to bring in there own. The Bikaner palace is located on a lake and has excellent opportunities for angling. The Car rallies
The Maharajas of Rajasthan were among the first to get cars in the country. They built extensive roads that connected the villages and the towns. It’s a state which has the maximum number of vintage cars some dating backs 70-80 years which have been maintained in running condition. Here people from all over India and abroad take part in the Vintage Car rallies.
