Jaipur
The capital of the state and erstwhile princely kingdom, it’s of the three cities that form the Golden Triangle for the tourists apart from Delhi and Agra. Jaipur is a very colorful city with rich traditions of royalty.
The places of interest are
Hawa Mahal – Also known as the Palace of Winds. It was built for the ladies of royalty who were forbidden to remove the veil from their face. In this way, they could see the proceedings in the city below and yet not be watched. There re several forts such as the Amer Fort and the Nahangarh Fort. The City Complex Palace is a must watch. Jaisalmer is located in the heart of the Thar Desert. This principality was ruled by the rulers of Jaisalmer, who were known for their valor.
The rich merchant's ad the nobility created beautiful palaces and havelis made of stone, which are still inhabitant till date. The other places of interest are the Jain temples, Salim Singh Ki Haveli, Lodurva, Amar Sagar Sam Dunes and many more.
Jodhpur
Jodhpur is also known as the blue city as the houses in the old part of the city are painted blue. The massive Mehrangarh rises above the city and stands in the middle of it. Its one of the most beautiful forts in Rajasthan.
It was built in 1450 and there were subsequent additions to it through the centuries by the next generation of the rulers.
The Umaid Bhawan Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singhji to provide employment to the famine stricken farmers. This is the largest private residence in the world and has 347 rooms. It’s also a five star hotel now.
Udaipur
Udaipur was the capital of the Mewar region and is known for its beauty. It’s also known as the City of Dawn.
Lake Pichola is the major attraction and has palaces and shrines and in the middle of the lake. The lake is best enjoyed by taking a boat ride around the palace.
In the middle stands the Lake Palace that seems to emerge from the middle of water. It’s now a heritage hotel and provides luxurious living to its guests. Other attractions include the Gulab Bagh and Bhartiya Lok Kala Museum.
The road network is extensive in Rajasthan. Jaisalmer and Jaipur are connected by air from major Indian cities. The railway network is also very extensive in the state.
